Main Seminar/Proseminar "Digital Data Transmission"

Overall organization

The seminar will be executed during the semester, with several plenum meetings. Extensive homework and regular communication with your tutor is expected between the meetings. The final meeting is a longer block where you will present your work.

The organizational flow of the seminar is the following:

until 02.11.2011       www, C6 3 10.00   On-line registration. After you confirmed your registration you should enroll for your preferred topic in the list available in room 9.06 in bulding C6 3 as soon as possible.
26.10.2011   14:00 - 16:00   C6 3 9.08   Kick-Off meeting: Introduction and final assignment of the topics among the participants.
Small workshop on scientific presentation skills.
26.10.2011 - 23.11.2012           Read and understand the background literature. Create slides for a short introductory talk (5 minutes, strict time limit!!!) about your topic. The talk must introduce the high-level ideas of your paper. Meet your tutor regularly for synchronizing your work.
23.11.2011   14:00 - 16:00   C6 3 9.08   Present a short overview of your topic. The goal of this meeting is to adjust the coverage of the seminar literature by the different talks. In addition, you will receive some comments and suggestions about your slides and your presentation style.
Small workshop on scientific writing skills.
23.11.2011 - 23.12.2011           Intensify your literature search and elaborate a complete draft of your written report. Again, arrange regular meetings with your tutor.
until 23.12.2011   24:00   email   Submit your draft report.
09.01.2012 - 23.01.2012           Each participant will be delivered two reports from their peers. Read the reports thouroughly and formulate short reviews. Submit your reviews via email until January 23, before midnight.
25.01.2012   14:00 - 16:00   C6 3 9.08   Based on the reviews, your report will be discussed in the plenum meeting. Your peers as well as the tutors will make suggestions on potential improvements. You are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the discussion.
25.01.2012 - 10.02.2012           Finalize your written report under consideration of the feedback from the peer review process. In parallel, prepare presentation slides for the final seminar talk.
until 10.02.2012   24:00       Submit written report and presentation slides.
